Honest Security: One year later
MacAdmins Podcast
It’s been about a year since Kolide launched Honest Security, and it’s time to look back and reflect on how the guide has been received by the general security community, Kolide’s customers, and what we’ve learned thus far. Much of this story can be told through the eyes of Harlie Hardage, a senior security specialist at 1Password who helped bring Kolide to the company in 2021. Having found the values of Honest Security were so well aligned with the strict values at 1Password (autonomy, responsibility, and kindness), it was an easy decision to make.
Listen →CyberHero: A serious game to teach cybersecurity
ACM Mid-Southeast Chapter Conference
Cybersecurity is a vital part of modern-day life, yet everyday users still struggle to grasp even the basics of cybersecurity. Organizations are taking the same approach to cybersecurity that they have with every other training topic; by using slideshows, presentations, pamphlets, manuals, webinars, seminars, or video productions. It is not being taken into account that these standard training types might be ineffective, causing trainees to feel overwhelmed, overloaded, confused, or bored. It is no secret that people are the weakest link in a security ecosystem, so great cybersecurity training is pertinent for all types of organizations. This research study aimed to develop an adaptive serious game that not only teaches users about cybersecurity in an engaging and personalized manner, but one that also measures the training’s effectiveness in a way that many existing cybersecurity serious games fail to do so. By measuring improvement within the game, we can gather more meaningful data and derive truer conclusions about the usefulness of utilizing serious games to teach cybersecurity.

Black Hat
Keeping your organization secure at scale has never been more important—or more challenging. At 1Password, we take security very seriously. But we also know that IT security shouldn’t feel like an adversary to productivity. We work hard to foster a company culture where security is an embedded, empowering part of the way we work. Join Security Training Expert, Harlie Hardage, as she discusses how 1Password built a culture of security: why 1Password views security training as an ongoing commitment, how 1Password ensures that communicating with IT is an easy and positive experience, and how the convenience of the 1Password app makes compliance with proper security practices easy.
